Information for Athletes & Officials

Timing of track & field events & who can compete:

What is offered at our meetings is very much determined by who attends and by the number of officials / helpers we get on the day.  If you are able to assist in anyway, please do so that we can offer all the events our athletes require.  I am always interested in ways were we can improve upon what we offer and the timing of events, so I welcome your feedback.

Saturday afternoon inter-club is open to ALL Grade 14 athletes, as from opening day.

Grade 13 athletes can attend Saturday afternoon interclub in the year in which you start high school.  For some, that could well be from the opening day in October in any given year or as from 1st January the following year.

NOTE:  We will run separate U16 events if required, but generally Grade 13 / 14 athletes will be joining in with the older athletes, including masters.

If you have questions about this policy. please contact Andrew on 338 0516 or e-mail (aws@xtra.co.nz).

When entering field events, please use the following procedures as per last season:

  1. When you pay your competition fee at the control room, ALL field event competitors are required to add their names to the event recording sheets at the same time, i.e. at the Control Room.
  2. Entries for a field event close 15 minutes before the scheduled start time as printed the weekly programme.
  3. If there is a larger than normal number of competitors in any one event, the number of rounds (jumps or throws) will be reduced to ensure the programme runs to time.

To ensure we can continue to offer the athletes a complete range of events each week, we do need your help ... so please consider being an official.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Under Age Grades - How old are you next year?
Will your competition grade changed as from 1st January next year?

Your competition under age grade is determined by your age as at 31st December in the year of competition.

This means that if you turn 18 during next year, you will be required to compete as an U-20 athlete as from 1st January (even if your birthday is on 31st December that year).  You can still use Secondary School implement weights & heights for your events in preparation for the inter-school events.

For athletes who turn 20 during next year, you will be required to compete as a Senior athletes as from 1st January.

If you are unsure, please ask for clarification.
