Board Member Vacancies
Athletics Canterbury invites applications for independent board members to join the board. The board is made up of elected members as per our AGM held in July. The position is voluntary and is for three years commencing August 2025 with an optional 2 terms.
Athletics Canterbury Inc. is a not-for profit Regional Sporting Organisation based in the South Island, New Zealand. We represent track and field as well as road, trail and cross-country running, throughout Canterbury, and the West Coast.
Athletics Canterbury encourages people of all ages (from children to masters), ethnicities, and abilities to get involved whether as an athlete, coach, or official. Our varied programmes and events are aimed at improving health and providing connection with others, as well as fostering skill development and high performance. Athletics provides multiple opportunities for leadership and for local volunteering.
The organisation currently employs 2 FTEs, who are supported by an operational committees to who focus on the successful delivery of our two season, track and field and cross country and road. The membership region currently extends from Waimate north, across to the West Coast and into the North Canterbury as far as Kaikoura.
The board is charged with overseeing the strategic direction of the organisation and ensuring its sustainability in the future. It is an exciting time to join the organisation as it works to further its recent growth, explore ways to engage with the wider running community, change and adapt the strategic direction and continue its positive impact on our members.
Ideal Applicant
For an Independent Board Member to contribute at a high level, they will need:
* A broad base of skills, but in particular have one of the following:- have a strong brand and marketing background, or legal background, or financial acumen, or communication skills.
* Strengths and experience in marketing, storytelling, communication and/or cultural experience would be of interest.
* A strong passion for sport and physical activity.
* An understanding of the role of the Board and how a high performing board works in order to fulfil its governance role.
