Important notice for all track users
Track users who have visited recently will have noticed that the lane barriers are back in place, and that there is significant damage in some areas of the track, particularly in lane one.
We are managing these areas as carefully as possible until repairs are completed, which is expected to happen shortly before the track season begins.
We appreciate the cooperation shown by many users who have followed the guidance and avoided the inside two lanes. However, we have also observed that not all users are following this requirement, which is disappointing given the current condition of the track.
Within the next two weeks, the lane barriers will be permanently locked in place and will only be opened for competition days. We ask all track users not to use lanes one or two for any training purposes. Any attempt to move locked barriers may result in damage, and the cost of repairs will be passed on to the individual or individuals responsible.
If the damaged areas worsen through continued use of lane one, it may affect our ability to start the season as planned. This is something we are very keen to avoid.
We are therefore asking for everyone’s cooperation from this point forward. Please respect the track rules by avoiding lanes one and two for all training activity and ensure that payment is made before using the track. We will continue to monitor track use, and failure to follow these requirements may result in individuals being restricted from using the track or competing at interclub meets.
This is not a step we want to take, as we value our athletics community and the way our members usually support one another. However, we must protect the only athletics track in the city so that it remains available for both training and competition.
